Here's a list of some of our most frequently asked questions. If you can't find an answer to your questions here, please send us an email at team@privatetutors.ie
We'd love to hear from you!

I have some questions / I’m having trouble with the site, is there anyone I can talk to?

Yes, of course! We are always happy to hear from our happy parents and wonderful tutors. Feel free to send us an email at team@privatetutors.ie

Please note, we pride ourselves in our thoughtful and detailed responses. So, despite our best efforts we often run on a backlog of emails. Sorry in advance if we respond early in the morning or late at night!

If you charge no commission fees and award tutors with gift cards, how do you make money?

Great question, we’re sure a lot of people are wondering this…

We have three small streams of income…

  • Generous sponsors who love our vision of education > profit
  • Selling the absolute best Leaving Cert notes
  • Tutors who pay to upgrade their profiles for more visibility

All donations go towards keeping Private Tutors running smoothly. If you would like to support our mission you can donate here…

If you aren’t in it for the money, then why do you charge for your courses and notes?

We know that free things are rarely appreciated. We also know the immense value students can get out of our excellent paid notes. So, we thought this would probably be the best way for us to keep our site alive and running!

How do I find a great tutor?

Great question!
You’re not the first person to ask us this so we’ve made a detailed blog post. You can check it out here

How do I pay for the lessons?

You should pay your tutor directly. We don’t have an escrow system set up on our platform. This is so we can truly commit to taking a 0% cut of tutors’ pay…

We recommend you pay at the end of each lesson, not per groups of lessons. This is to protect you from the tutor taking your money and not showing up!

Can I trust the tutor to be alone with my child?

That’s up to you to decide. If you’re looking for the answer to this question after meeting your chosen tutor, the answer is probably no…

Not to worry though. The great thing about Private tutors is that you don’t need to commit to one tutor. Each tutor has their own unique strengths. It’s just a matter of finding the perfect private tutor for you! At the end of the day, we want your child to achieve their academic goals!

My private tutor doesn’t show up on time, but they’re awesome when they’re here!

We completely understand where you’re coming from. You don’t want to criticize for fear of ruining the great relationship you have. It’s quite a dilemma…

We recommend gently hinting at the issue and suggesting a slightly later time. For example: ‘How was your trip here? If the time doesn’t suit, we could move the lesson to begin 10 minutes later?’

If the problem persists, let us know. We’ll be the bad guys and send out a generalized email on punctuality. Then as a last resort, sit them down for a more serious talk…

My private tutor doesn’t give us any notice before cancelling classes!

This is not acceptable unless they have a decent excuse. Regardless, you should have a chat about cancellation policy. It’s completely fair to expect a tutor to give a week’s notice for cancelling lessons, and it’s also completely fair for them to expect the same from you. You can check out this blog post for further information…

Do tutors undergo ID checks?

No, but more importantly we check qualifications. As tutoring is done face to face, it wouldn’t be the smartest idea to lie about your identity! However, if do we find any false advertising on our site, the tutor’s profile will be promptly removed.

I have forgotten my password and want to edit my profile ahh!!

Check your email. You should have an email with your most recent changed password. If not, please get in touch with us at team@privatetutors.ie

How can I get more students?

Just like with everything else: The more you put into Private Tutors, the more you’ll get out of Private TutorsFor more information please check out this blog post

Why do I have to resubmit my free profile every 3 months?

We don’t want to overwhelm parents with too much choice. So, this 3-month resubmission is to make sure that the private tutors on our site are actually looking for students and not just random profiles to look big!

How do you submit reviews?

Yes, you may have noticed that only some tutors have reviews. This is because our review process is purposely tedious…

All tutor reviews are sent to us by email (team@privatetutors.ie) and manually checked by us. This way, the reviews you see are absolutely 100% trustworthy!
